Calm, Confidence & Belonging
This project was developed through a user-centred design process, shaped by close dialogue with the schools staff. The school is designed for children and young people who struggle to find their place within a traditional educational framework, accommodating a wide age range — from primary school pupils to young adults preparing for working life.
Great care has been taken to create a safe, calm, and supportive environment, grounded in the staff’s strong commitment to their students’ wellbeing. Connection to nature is an integral part of the design, with deep seating niches placed throughout the building to strengthen the relationship between learning spaces and the landscape outside.
Existing furniture was carefully mapped and reused wherever possible, supplemented only where necessary. The result is a learning environment defined by calm, safety, and confidence — a place that supports belonging, regulation, and a sense of mastery over time.
